This terrace of 5 new cottage style houses were designed and built to appear like a natural extension of an original terrace at Croft Hill in Flamborough. Traditional techniques were used to create an authentic appearance – in particular chalk stone walls were an important part of the proposals. Chalk has long been a traditional but rather unusual building material typical of the Flamborough area; but in recent years its use had all but disappeared. For this special project Kemp Developments had to revive traditional techniques to recreate the distinctive chalk walls – all the chalk for the project was cut and dressed on site. Trials were carried out to find the correct mix of lime mortar to achieve the light colour required to complement the chalk material. The finished project was nominated for and received awards from the FMB and the East Riding Council.
