Conversion of former Humber Pilots Offices into seven contemporary apartments, Queen St, Hull.

Kemp Developments were asked to undertake an initial assessment of the former Humber Pilot’s office building to determine if it was suitable for residential conversion. The building, constructed in 1819, is grade II listed and enjoys panoramic views of the Humber estuary.  Following an inspection of the building some draft plans were produced in house which demonstrated a residential conversion was viable.

The conversion process required traditional craftsmanship to preserve the historic features of the building, but also required the integration of up to the minute technology to satisfy the client’s brief. The original fabric of the building required sympathetic renovation, including repair of the sliding sash windows, welsh slate roof, ornate plasterwork and the building’s centrepiece: a famous oval staircase.

Modern technologies included a state of the art fire suppression system to allow open plan layouts for the apartments, a video door entry system and Bose audio visual systems. The apartments were fitted with high quality German kitchens and “wet room” style bathrooms.
