New Cottage style house built in Hornsea by Kemp Developments Ltd - Builders

“Dawn Cottage”, Hornsea – built in 2008 by Kemp Developments Ltd

Hardwood front door and canopy

This new build cottage was built between a Historic listed cobble cottage on one side and a Gothic Victorian terrace on the other.  Designed in-house at Kemp Developments it had to strike a balance between the contrasting styles and sizes of it’s neighbours – the success of the design was recognised by the East Riding Council who chose it as a finalist in their “Chairman’s Awards”.  A reclaimed Welsh slate roof was used with handmade bricks, stone window and door surrounds, traditional brick corbelling and cast iron gutters.  One of the local historic architectural styles in Hornsea is cobble walls – cobbles found on the site were used to create an authentic cobble garden wall – which was well received by the local conservation officer.
