Hornsea Town Hall

Kemp Developments were successful in winning the tender to create Hornsea’s new Town Hall, in the process beating off competition from five other contractors including some of the region’s largest construction companies. The project required the complete renovation and conversion of a Victorian Chapel, adapting it to provide modern, flexible office and

exhibition space. The building was originally only single storey; however the client needed to maximise the floor space; so three new cast insitu concrete floors & stairs were installed as well as a new passenger lift to provide disabled access to all floors.

The client required a very energy efficient building and consequently the Town Hall is heavily insulated and heated by high efficiency boilers coupled with a sophisticated underfloor heating system. The building also benefits form a full mechanical ventilation system, equipped with heat recovery to further enhance its energy performance. Other notable features are a state of the art fire suppression system, public address system, networking for data and a CCTV system for security. The whole project had to be fast tracked in a 12 week period, although ultimately requests for additional work from the client extended the build period beyond 12 weeks.

The new building provides Hornsea Town Council with state of the art offices and Hornsea as a whole with modern facilities for community groups, businesses and private individuals to use for exhibitions, conferences and private functions.
